Solution 2 with 5V iPower SMPS did not improve it, and Solution 3 with the same SMPS was detrimental. The DAC I'm currently using, a Korg DS-DAC-100M, seems to deal with computer USB power just fine. Depending on which DAC I've used, disconnecting from the USB bus was beneficial, or not. I use a Dell 7000 laptop in my headphone system. The DAC definitely needs to be isolated from the RPi's noisy USB power. I use solution 3 in a nice little secondary system with a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ and iFi iOne DAC. I only have one DAC like this, the other five DAC's I've tried needed USB power.
